When travel experts from Good Housekeeping hit the road with their families, they liked what the found in Greenville. “Greenville combines the best of a big city and a small-town vacation,” one travel expert noted. The city was listed among the top 50 vacation destinations in the United States in a recent list from Good Housekeeping

Among the amenities that impressed travelers: The Children’s Museum of the Upstate, the seventh largest children’s museum in the country. Visitors called it “mind-blowing for a town that has just 72,000 or so residents.”

“The Children’s Museum of the Upstate (TMCU) is built for families. Every exhibit and program is designed to inspire connection, creativity and curiosity,” said Lauren Luneckas CEO of TCMU. “Being considered a go-to destination for fun means we’re fulfilling our mission by creating joyful, inclusive spaces where children and caregivers can learn, play and grow together.”

Greenville’s free downtown trolley, Roper Mountain Science Center and the Swamp Rabbit Trail were also mentioned as what makes Greenville “perfect for recreation.”

“From teaching a child how to ride their first bike to weekend warriors hopping along to trailside businesses to professional cyclists, the Swamp Rabbit Trail has something for everyone,” said Calin Owns, capital project manager for the City of Greenville. “The Swamp Rabbit Trail continues to set the bar for how communities investing in safe infrastructure can provide major ROI for economic growth, health and wellness and overall quality of life.”

In 2024, trail averaged 6,000 users a day and more than 2.3 million throughout the year, making it a popular spot for residents and visitors alike.
