As students return to school, the Greenville Police Department reminds families that the curfew for youth under the age of 18 remains in effect in downtown Greenville.
According to the City ordinance passed in 2011, minors cannot be on public streets, plazas or parks after 10 p.m. on Friday and Saturday nights, extending through 6 a.m. the following morning. The curfew hours also apply to federal holidays, as well as Christmas and New Year's Eve.
Exceptions are in place, including when the youth is:
- Accompanied by a parent or guardian
- An emancipated minor
- In transit from a religious service, work, a medical facility or under written directive of a parent or guardian for purposed of performing an errand.
- Volunteering or attending a performance or event
